CYGNET is always trying to improve the facilities for audiences and actors and the Theatre continues to offer the students a professional space to perform to audiences.

But backstage, it’s a different story. We desperately need to:

• insulate and heat our large rehearsal room – called the ‘ice box’ by our students because it can be unbearably cold for much of the winter

• replace the ancient malfunctioning showers which are so necessary for – and so appreciated by – students constantly involved in physical work

• replace our ancient inefficient boiler with a modern high-efficiency one, and install solar panels on our roof to reduce our total energy costs and cut our carbon footprint

These improvements will:

• enable us to use our building to its full potential and provide our wonderful students with the facilities they deserve and are entitled to expect

• encourage other community groups and touring theatre and dance companies to use our theatre in the evenings, at weekends and during vacations, producing additional income which will help keep our students’ fees down

• reduce our carbon footprint and our future expenditure on heating and lighting

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We would be so grateful for any financial help that can be given towards upgrading our theatre, so that we can provide many more years of this unique training programme which is so appreciated by our students, whose work is in turn so appreciated by our loyal audiences.

The total cost of the improvements is £80,000.

Provide an interest free loan that would be repaid over the next 7 years.

Cygnet Theatre has the perfect south facing roof to produce electricity from the sun.  By installing photo-voltaic panels, we can benefit from the government financial incentives called Feed in Tariff (FIT) payments, which are index linked and guaranteed for the next 25 years.
An initial outlay of £12,000 will yield a tax free income of £800 p.a. guaranteed for 25 years, irrespective of the probable savings of around £500 p.a. on electricity bills.

We have the funds to make the deposit of £2,000.  But we need to raise £10,000 to make this happen.
